The simulation of human breathing passes a mixture of gases containing oxygen to a artificial lung (1) with bellows (2) actuated by a stepper motor (5). The step frequency and duration are controlled by coded sound from the audio output (15) of a computer (14). The computer also controls injection of carbon gases during 'inhalation' and hydrogen injection and combustion during 'exhalation'.
