The apparatus is designed to make the eater conscious of the masticatory process and consists of a helmet or simple ear plugs to cut out exterior sounds, and a recording device to count the number of mastications. The recording device can be fitted under the chin and held in place by elastic ties, or it can be attached to a band worn round the neck.
