A free wheel brake roller has a cage with two surrounding rings (1,2) linked by cross-pieces (3). The cross-pieces define the ball cages (4). Each ball rests on a spring (5), the base of which rests against a cross-piece. Each cross-piece has a pocket (11), the radial outward side of which has a first (15) and second (16) windows. The first opening (15) is covered by the base (6) of the spring.
