The waterbed (10) has a water-filled mattress (14) that is fixed in a frame (12). The mattress has devices (24-30) to generate waves in water in mattress. Preferably, the frame is a rigid trough and the wave-generating devices are arranged inside the trough or a support (18) under the trough. The wave-generating devices may be electro-hydraulic or electro-mechanical.
