A thermally insulating building block is made with a number of hollow spaces each fitted with infrared reflecting plates. These reflect thermal radiation as well as dividing the trapped spaces into smaller spaces and thereby reducing thermal convection effect. The reflecting plates can be polished metal sheets. The inner surfaces of the spaces require no special finish.
