The device has at least one load sensor for measuring a load value and connected to the bed of the press and a computer for processing a number of computed values that stores data related to the press and receives the load values from the sensor. One of the computed values is a measure of the magnitude of the tilting moment based on the measured load value. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of monitoring the conditions for reliability of the matrix of a running press and a method for generating a definite diagram of the tilt moment, especially for a press and a matrix set.
