The stitching cylinder, at the folding station of a rotary printing press, has a ring piece (2) with projections (8,9) towards the sides of the staple guide grooves (6,7) of the stapling piston (5). The structure prevents breakages at the legs of the staples (16) when binding the folded sheets. The projections (8,9) are at the end sides of a cylinder pin (10) which rotates in a drilling (11) through the ring piece (2).
