PURPOSE: A quick scanning method for small-size paper is provided to increase the speed of scanning by detecting and skipping a background pattern of a carrier sheet without scanning unnecessary areas outer of the document area. CONSTITUTION: A small-size paper is scanned(S110). A first block of the paper is scanned(S120). The Nth slice data are compared with the Nth slice reference data(S130). It is judged whether the read slice data are mutually identical to the reference data(S140). In case that the slice data aren't identical to the reference data, it is judged whether the N is larger than 2551(S150). In case that the N is less than 2551, the number of slice is increased to N+1(S160). In case that the Nth slice is increased, the Nth slice data are compared with the Nth slice reference data(S170). In case that the slice data are identical to the reference data(S140), data after the N-1th slice data are skipped(S180). In case that the Nth slice is larger than 2551, an existing video processing is applied(S190). In case that the scanning is completed, a scanning work is terminated(S200).
