PURPOSE: A device and a method for preventing sleep driving are provided to alarm the sleep driving of a driver by deciding sleep driving depending on the opening degree and blinking of eyes. CONSTITUTION: A device for preventing sleep driving consisting of a switch(10), a camera(12), a control unit(30) and an alarm unit(40). The camera is installed in a specific portion of a vehicle to detect the image of a face of a driver and output a video signal. The control unit consists of a video signal operating unit(31) and an interface(32). The control unit detects the opening degree of the eyes of the driver by analyzing the video signal supplied from the camera and decides the sleep driving depending on the opening degree of the eyes. The control unit outputs a control signal for outputting an alarm signal to the driver when sleep driving is decided. The alarm unit consists of a RAM(Random Access Memory) monitor(41), a display(42) to alarm sleep driving, and a speaker(43) to output an alarm to warn the driver.
