The invention relates to an electrical machine, in particular a generator for a vehicle, comprising an exciter system with aplurality of electrically excited monopoles in a stator or rotor. Said stator (40) or rotor (39) are formed as poles (37, 38) which have alternating polarity in aperipheral direction and which are oriented in an axial position on the periphery whereby permanent magnets (43) are inserted between said alternating poles (37, 38) in order to decrease the amount of stray magnetic energy flow in intermediate areas (42) between the alternating poles (37, 38) of permanent magnets (43). The fixing of the permanent magnets (43) to the stator (40) or the rotor (39) is characterized in that the permanent magnets (43) are respectively held by a magnetically non-excitable holding element (44) whereby said holding elements are held on both sides in pole grooves (46, 47) and a pole groove (46) is on the longitudinal side of a pole and apole groove (47) is incorporated on the longitudinal side a neighboring counter pole (38).
