Process for introducing a carbon carrier into a reaction chamber, e.g. in a shaft kiln or blast furnace, comprises mixing the carrier with one or more gaseous and/or liquid media before being introduced into the chamber in such a way that the carrier is atomized and then fed into the chamber in its atomized state. Preferred Features: The carrier is heavy oil, carbon dust, plastic parts, granules and/or pellets. The gaseous and/or liquid media is water, water vapor, oxygen, carbon dioxide, short-chain hydrocarbons and/or hydrocarbons with low boiling points, e.g. methanol.
