An adhesive coating (42) is applied onto a varnish and primer free decorative layer (32) and the latter brought into contact with an extruded plastic carrier layer (18). At the point of contact the plastic carrier is above its softening point. Independent claims are made for: (a) a decorative profile comprising a decorative layer (32) bonded to a visible side of a carrier with a reactive polyurethane adhesive (42); (b) process plant comprising a decorative strip-carrying spool (30), an adhesive applicator (34), an extruder with die (16) producing a carrier layer, a roll pair (44,46) immediately following the extruder for pressing both layers together with adhesive between them, a calibrating unit (52-55) and cooling unit (50).
