1415411 Power plant KRUPP-KOPPERS GmbH 30 Aug 1973 [21 Sept 1972] 40987/73 Heading F1Q In a process for the generation of electrical power, coal dust is gasified (17) by partial oxidation at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature of about 1500‹C with pre-heated air 14 to produce a hot gas which is cooled to a temperature of about 150 C in a waste heat boiler 20 to generate steam for a primary generating plant having a capacity not exceeding that required to meet the base load, the cooled gas being subjected to electrostatic dust separation 32, compressed 33 to a pressure of about 20-50 atmospheres absolute, desulphurized 35 and at least partially utilized to energize secondary generating plant for meeting peak loads in excess of the capacity of the primary generating plant. The primary generating plant may comprise a turbine 22 driven by steam obtained in the waste heat boiler 20. The compressed gas for energizing the secondary generating plant is fed to a combustion chamber 45 to generate combustion products at a temperature of about 1500‹C which products are thereafter cooled to a temperature of about 820‹C by the addition of compressed air through a pipe 48 and the resulting mixture is expanded in a gas turbine 49 driving a secondary generating unit 51. The proportion of compressed gas which is not required for the generation of electrical power is divided into two streams at a distribution point 43 One stream flows to a methanization plant 53 and the other stream is fed to a conversion plant 62. The stream required for the plants 53 and 62 may be supplied from the boiler 20 or from an external source of steam. |
