ELECTRO-SENSITIVE WORKING MEDIUM AND METHOD OF USING THE MEDIUM

A homogeneous electro-sensitive movable medium of the present invention comprises at least one liquid organic compound having at least 3 halogen atoms, especially fluorine atoms, in the molecule thereof. It has an electro conductivity in the range of 4x10<-10> SIMILAR 5x10<-6>S/m at the operation temperature of the medium and a surface tension of 22dyn/cm or smaller at the operation temperature of the medium. The homogeneous electro-sensitive movable medium is difficultly flammable or non-flammable. This homogeneous electro-sensitive movable medium is placed in non-uniform electric fields to form a moving flow of the medium between the pair of electrodes, and the moving flow can be used in an ECF motor, a pump, a washing device and the like. As it particularly comprises a halogen atom, especially a fluorine compound, an electro-sensitive movable medium of the present invention is almost non-flammable and has no risk of ignition even if it is involved in sparks etc. between the electrodes. Also, the moving flow of the electro-sensitive movable medium can effectively be formed due to the electro conductivity and the surface tension of the medium having the particular ranges, respectively. <IMAGE>
