<p>The assembly comprises a gate 50 slidable in a housing between open and closed positions to open and close an exhaust outlet. First and second closeable relief passages are provided for relieving exhaust gas pressure on the gate 50 during opening and closing, respectively, of the gate. The housing may be divided into an input chamber 23 and an output chamber 24 separated by a partition wall 25. The first pressure relief passage may be provided by a closeable aperture 52 in the gate 50, the closure member 31 having a corresponding aperture 32 and having an upturned tang 33 by which it engages with one end of the gate operating rod 60. The second pressure relief passage may be provided by a closeable aperture 42 in the partition wall 25, the closure member 41 being slidable in a recess 43 in the partition wall 25 and driven by an operating pin 44 passing though a gas-tight seal 45 in end-wall 22. The pin 44 engages a z-shaped plate 65 fastened to the other end of the gate control rod 60. A pressure relief valve 90 may also be provided in the partition wall 25.</p> |
