Printing mechanism has a keyboard and a separate control unit employing e.g. magnetic cassettes or cards as a recording medium. The printing head moves along a stationary platen whereby an intermediary surface is provided and has transferred to it by a transmission unit and a marking image formed from a marking material. An image production unit interacts with the printing head. The printing head driving unit and the transmission unit are so coordinated that the marking material images are transferred to a predetermined position on the receiver. The coordination control system incorporates a computer which reacts to electrical command signals emanating from an electronic keyboard.
