An object exchange facility for a multinode data processing system, wherein a first node of said data processing system is adapted to process a class of data objects having a first protocol with a first predefined set of attributes; and a second node of said data processing system is adapted to process a class of data objects having a second protocol with a second predefined set of attributes, the second predefined set being a subset of the first set; sa id object exchange facility including a transformer for transforming an object of one class fro m the first definition protocol into a corresponding object of the second protocol with a descripti on of extensions that define any attributes and their inheritance relationships which are in exces s of the second predefined maximum number of inherited attributes, to assist in transferring an object from the first node to the second node.
