A spread spectrum communication network having a common channel, the channel comprising a plurality of frames for containing access channel data and paging channel data for communication to a plurality of radiotelephones, the spread spectrum communication network comprising a controller arranged to omit access channel data from a predetermined frame of the common channel to allow a radiotelephone to perform an inter-frequency measurement during the predetermined frame.
