A dryer for drying seed (16) and other small particles has a cylindrical stator (11) with a coaxial rotor (12) having a flat base (13) and outwardly-sloping sides (14). Seed (16) is thrown upwardly and outwardly as the rotor (12) rotates, climbing the sides (14) of the rotor (12) and the wall (15) of the stator (11) before falling back down onto the rotor (12). As the seed (16) falls, fluid (19) is sprayed onto the moving seed (16) from a central spray head (18). Drying of the sprayed seed (16) takes place <I>in situ</I> by passing air through apertures (107) in the walls (15) just above the upper edge of the rotor (12). The drying means preferably includes a circular stub (110) with a fishtail connector (108), a flange (109) connected to the outside of the wall (15), a vertical slot (107), and a strip (105, 106) directing the air into the chamber. |
