PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decide whether an inserted disk has its 12 cm or 8 cm width. SOLUTION: A disk recording and/or reproducing device is provided with a 1st detection means 202 which is placed at a position corresponding to the center hole part of a disk that is located at its recording or reproducing position and detects the tip part of the disk that is moved to the recording or reproducing part and the 2nd and 3rd detection means 203 and 204 which detect the width of the disk when the means 202 detects the disk tip part. Then these three detection means 202-204 discriminate the disk.
