PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a submarine optical cable and its manufacturing method capable of speeding up the manufacturing of an optical unit, preventing increase of a micro-bend loss and further capable of preventing a phenomenon of pulling a coated optical fiber in the discontinuous part of the cable. SOLUTION: The coated optical fiber 12 is brought into close contact with the periphery of a central supporting body 11 to longitudinally attach the cable to it, the optical unit 10 is made by being covered with a tube 13 consisting of thermoplastic resin while filling soft region or absorptive power 14, steel wires are collected around the optical unit, a copper pipe 22 is formed by welding, a metallic pressure shell 20 is formed by drawing, further a polyethylene sheath 32 is applied onto it and the cable is constituted.
