PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method by which a highly accurate focal point is detected by eliminating the effect of a noise component or the like in an output value in the case of obtaining the focal point for the focusing of an image reader. SOLUTION: The effect of a noise component or the like is eliminated from an output value of the image reader by applying a multi-point averaging processing to the output value resulting from reading a read face while changing a focal point. Furthermore, a computer-readable recording medium stores a procedure to execute the multi-point averaging processing.
