PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make realizable a video display device which is capable of performing a video display which is excellent in the display performance of the low gradation area of a video and which has high picture quality and which is capable of attaining the long life of a light source and also whose power consumption is low by improving the utilizing efficiency of light. SOLUTION: LED arraies 31R, 31G, 31B of respective colors are constituted by arranging plural pieces of LEDs of red, green and blue in a line in the horizontal direction. Moreover, a video signal is converted into video signal data which are grouped in a line of the vertical direction of videos by using a video signal processing circuit 17 and picture memories 32R, 32G, 32B or the like and videos of one line are simultaneously displayed in the vertical direction by driving the LED arraies 31R, 31G, 31B so as to emit lights while changing the intensity by the video signal data. Irraditated lights are displayed on a screen 16 by scanning them in the horizontal direction by using a horizontal direction scanning reflection mirror 15 while making it synchronized with the horizontal scanning of the video signal.
