PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an display discharge lamp of high quality and high reliability which leads to reduction in dispersion of discharge initiation voltage or of luminance by causing prevention of dispersion of glow generating position. SOLUTION: A display discharge lamp L and a voltage display unit using an indicative discharge lamp L comprise a glass valve 1, a pair of lid wires 4, 4 sealed in lid portion 2 of one end of the valve 1, an electrode 7 connected to one of lid wires 4, 4, an anode 6 connected to the other wire 4 and at the same time, arranged at a given space to face each other toward center in the length direction of the electrode 7 and having a length shorter than the electrode length of up to 1.5 mm, a metal oxide layer 8 formed by coating on the surface portion of the electrode 7 and anode 6, and a rare gas for discharging sealed in the valve 1.
