PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming material, a heat developable photographic sensitive material and a silver halide photographic sensitive material each using a dye excellent in solubility in an organic solvent and excellent also in suitability to solid dispersion and oil dispersion, having good sharpness, little residual color stain, a favorable cold black tone as the color tone of image silver and good shelf stability and excellent in dry processability, to provide an image forming method for each of the materials, to provide an optical filter having favorable spectral characteristics and to provide a substrate for an image forming material such as a silver halide photographic sensitive material. SOLUTION: The image forming material contains a dye having a transmission density of <0.03 at 420 nm wavelength when the transmission density at the maximum absorption wavelength in methyl ethyl ketone is 1.0.
