PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read data in a data area even when a timing reference signal for reading the data area can not be read. SOLUTION: A magnetic disk device releases a read gate at timing when the servo timing mark 112 of a servo field 110 is defined as reference, reproduces data from a 2nd data field 102b. When a timing reference signal can not be detected, the magnetic disk device releases the read gate at timing when the 1st data field 102a just before the field 102b to be reproduced is defined as reference and reproduces data from the field 102b.
