PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a power factor responding to the actual application condition for a load and AC input voltage and also to control ripple elements. SOLUTION: A boost circuit 12 for generating a higher voltage rectifying and smoothing voltage than the peak level of commercial AC power supply is provided for the power supply circuit as a complex resonance type converter provided with a power factor improving circuit 10. The boost circuit 12 can generate a boosted rectifying and smoothing voltage by connecting in series a the smoothing capacitor Ci, the serial resonance circuit formed of the serially connected resonance capacitor C3 in the power factor improving circuit 10, inductance element Ls and a boost winding N3.
