PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a planographic printing plate inspecting apparatus capable of certainly inspecting the surfaces of plural kinds of PS plates different in photosensitive characteristics and capable of preventing the sensitization of the PS plates. SOLUTION: An He-Ne laser and an IR laser are attached to a scanner 16 and can emit laser beams having different wavelengths. An operator inputs the kind of a PS plate 14 to a condition setting computer 44 and a controller 42 judges which of the He-Ne laser and the IR laser is used. The reflected beam of the laser applied to the PS plate is received by a regularly reflected beam receiver 38 and a scattered reflected beam receiver 40. Since plural kinds of the light sources different in wavelength are provided and the light source having a wavelength not sensitizing the PS plate 14 can be selected corresponding to the kind of the PS plate 14, the surfaces of the PS plates 14 having different photosensitive characteristics can be inspected without sensitizing the PS plates.
