PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a close contact image sensor having a lens array that is low in cost, small-sized and offers excellent handleability. SOLUTION: The close contact image sensor provided with a transparent board on which an original 9 is placed, a light source LED array 6 that emits a light onto an original face on the transparent board 7, a lens array that forms an image from a light reflected in the original face emitted by the light source, and a light receiving element array 4 that photoelectric-converts the reflected light from the original face through the lens array, employs a liquid crystal micro lens 21 in place of a rod lens which is a component of the lens array. Furthermore, a glass board being a component of the liquid crystal micro lens 21 is used for the transparent board 7. Since the micro lens 21 can more easily be manufactured than the rod lens and the refractive index of the liquid crystal can be controlled by controlling a voltage applied to its electrode, a lens with excellent functions such as focal distance, resolution, focal depth and lightness can be built up to offer excellent handleability. Miniaturization and low-profile can be attained and the cost can be reduced.
