PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image-pickup device that can properly discriminate a remaining quantity of a battery in response to a kind of a recording medium. SOLUTION: This image-pickup device is provided with a recording means that records image information on a removable recording medium, a detection means that discriminates a kind of the recording medium, a prediction means that predicts a voltage drop resulting from driving the recording medium before driving the recording medium, and a discrimination means that compares the predicted voltage drop with a threshold, to discriminate whether the remaining amount of the battery is small. The prediction means predicting the voltage drop resulting from driving the recording medium uses an arithmetic means to decide the voltage drop, by multiplying a prescribed coefficient with a voltage drop by a dummy load and selects the coefficient used for the arithmetic operation, depending on the kind of the recording medium. Thus, the image-pickup device can discriminate the proper residual capacity of the battery depending on the kind of recording medium.
