PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the power loss of an eddy-current decelerator generated when a brake 'OFF' is made, by substantially reducing dragging torque generated when making the brake OFF, without damaging its braking force generated, when making the brake 'on'. SOLUTION: An eddy-current type decelerator of a single-line turning made has a group of permanent magnets 6 supported opposite to a rotor 8 attached to a rotational shaft 1, which are so provide at a constant space along the circumferential direction of the rotor 8 on a support ring 4 capable of tuning within a required angular scope that their magnetic polarities are made opposite alternately to each other, a group of switching plates 7 so interposed between the group of permanent magnets 6 and the rotor 8 that their angular positions are made fundamentally equal to the those of the respective magnets 6, and the portions of a supporting body 3 interposed respectively between the respective adjacent switching plates 7 to each other. In the decelerator, the adjacent switching plates 7 are provided with an inner-peripheral-surface side spaceδbetween them is set not smaller than 15 mm, and a relationδ/T of the inner- peripheral-surface side spaceδto a thickness T of the switching plate 7 is set not larger than 1.6.
