SOLUTION: In the signal processing unit for a signal with a video component whose level is a pedestal level or higher, a level detection section 19 detects a level lower than the pedestal level, of components other than the video component and a count section 14 counts the level, and an amplitude gate/compression section 15 processes the other components on the basis of the result of detection.
