PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an oxide discharge electrode without using the activation process of rapid heating in a vacuum that causes dispersion of the characteristics of a cold cathode fluorescent lamp due to the positioning error between the heater and electrode. SOLUTION: A metal member with higher reducibility than an oxide emitter forming material 3a is used for a basic electrode material 2, which may be reduced to convert the emitter forming material 3a into the oxide emitter 3. Thus, the process of activating the oxide emitter forming material is not required.
