PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a heat developable photosensitive material excellent in dot reproducibility in printing on a PS plate, dimensional stability before and after heat development, conveyability, the occurrence of pinholes in exposure, scuffing resistance and preservability in the lapse of time, free from the occurrence of a roller mark and unevenness in density in rapid processing, having high Dmax and high contrast and capable of very rapid processing and to provide an image forming method for the photosensitive material. SOLUTION: The heat developable photosensitive material contains an organic silver salt, silver halide, a binder, a reducing agent and a contrast enhancer on the substrate and the Vickers hardness (HE) of the photosensitive layer protecting layer of the material is 40-150.
