The method for managing the requirement for drinks crates uses a shelf system (5) on which the crates are stored and a handling device comprising a lift platform (21) on which a robot (22) mounted. A computer provides commands to the handling device which move it to the required position by rotating the robot about its vertical axis and raising or lowering the platform. The crates are then withdrawn and placed on a pallet in the same way. This process is repeated until the requirement has been met, after which the full pallet is removed. An empty pallet is then moved from a stack to the filling station. An Independent claim is included for a device for carrying out the above method.
