The present invention relates to a system and method for conducting secure electronic transactions. Disclosed is a central server system which can process and correlate proxy numbers or data which is substituted for personal data and financial information during transactions where the information could be intercepted or misused by the recipient. In the preferred mode, transaction numbers are used by customers to conceal their actual credit card number from online merchants and those who would attempt to intercept credit card numbers used in online transactions.
