The present invention relates to an electricity collecting device for a vehicle such as a trolleybus or tramway car. This vehicle includes at least one pole (10) articulated to a base (4) secured to the vehicle (1), particularly about an approximately horizontal axis of tilt (8) and carrying an electricity collecting head (19) intended to be applied against a catenary (overhead contact line) (20) with an increasing force (F). Means are provided for detecting the cancellation of the said force (F) and then for automatically commanding the operation (feed) of a thrust cylinder (32) controlling the position of the pole (11) about the axis of tilt (8) in order automatically to lower the collecting head (19) in the event of the pole becoming disengaged. In such a case, the collecting head (19) is thus brought back down quickly enough not to risk damaging the catenary supports or the line apparatus.
