Scale grid gages (4.1,4.2) of different grid constants are arranged in parallel on reflecting measurement material (5), along displacement direction. A light source (1) and sampling array elements (3.1,3.2) are arranged in a common plane which is in parallel to the reflecting measurement material. The scale grid gages arranged on the reflecting measurement material reflect the light from light source, to the sampling array elements. The sampling array element width (c) is twice the width (a) of the scale grid gage while the sampling array element distance (d) is twice the distance between the scale grid gage (b).
