The valve unit has a housing (42) with valve opening (41) for exhaust flow, and a valve (43) to open/close the opening, which is elastically deformable and has end section fastened to the housing. A peripheral wall (42a) within the housing projects in opening direction of the valve to surround it. The valve opening is defined by the peripheral wall, so when exhaust gas pressure has risen above a set value, the valve is moved into a position above an open end of the peripheral wall, so that the valve opening is in open position.
