A method and apparatus for making a paint roller having a natural skin cover are provided. The natural skin cover being bonded to the paint roller using a thermoplastic material, preferably polypropylene, and the natural skin cover being formed from a strip (30) of natural skin, such as lambskin, provided in a width sufficient to accommodate shrinkage in the manufacturing process. The resulting product providing a superior natural skin covered paint roller that is substantially integral and that will remain integral when exposed to paint solvents.
