An Event Source object and an Event Listener object are identified to an Event Handler object, and a target event definition associated with the Event Listener object is provided to the Event Handler object. An event description is communicated from the Event Source object to the Event Handler object responsive to an occurrence of an event. The event description is communicated from the Event Handler object to the Event Listener object if the event description satisfies the target event definition. The Event Handler, Event Source and Event Listener objects may include objects or processes implementing respective Event Handler, Event Source and Event Listener interfaces, and the event descriptions passed among the Event Source, Event Handler and Event Listener objects preferably include Event objects that encapsulate event descriptions. The target event definition may specify, for example, an event from a specific Event Source object, a specific class of events, and/or a specific event. According to another aspect, the Event Listener object includes an Event/Action Processor object that links an event to a corresponding action.
