PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute an optimum recording operation by detecting information writing situations on an optical information recording medium. SOLUTION: When observations are made on the output waveform from a monitor photodetector 6 in the process of recording to a CD-R (optical information recording medium 4), the output waveform fluctuates when the recording is not made normally while the output waveform is almost rectangular when recording is made normally. Thus, the quality of the recording to the CD-R is grasped by observing the fluctuation of the output waveform from this monitor photodetector 6. The recording operation is controlled optionally in the information recording process by the fluctuation of the output waveform from the monitor photodetector.
