The invention relates to a hydropneumatic suspension system and the method of controlling said hydropneumatic suspension system, as used, in particular, for off-road vehicles. Said hydropneumatic suspension system permits allowance to be made for both static and dynamic factors, as well as both a manual and automatic control, despite being of a simple and cheap construction which is easy to repair. An inventive hydropneumatic suspension system, in particular for vehicles, comprises at least two hydraulic springs, which are hydraulically connected to each other and to a regulating cylinder via a load distribution unit. Said hydropneumatic suspension system is characterised by the following switching possibilities for the load distribution unit: hydraulic separation of the hydraulic springs, hydraulic connection of just the two linked hydraulic springs and hydraulic connection of both hydraulic springs and the regulating cylinder.
