FAST SEGMENTATION ALGORITHM FOR BI-LEVEL IMAGE COMPRESSION USING JBIG2

A method and system for separating text from non-text regions, even when the regions are non-rectangular or half skew. The present method would also detect regions of reverse-colored text. This method would also increase the compression performance of the encoder and would improve encoding speeds considerably, often by an order of magnitude.
