A copolymerisate comprises (wt.% of total) N-vinylpyrrolidone (30-79.5), vinyl acetate (20-69.5), a 4-20C monovinyl ester of a monocarboxylic acid (0.5-25), and another copolymerisable ethylenically unsaturated compound (0-40), is new. Independent claims are included for: (1) An aqueous solution or dispersion of copolymerisate as above; (2) an aqueous polymer dispersion containing the above copolymerisate as thickener.
