The vacuum housing (1) consists of optically transparent material in the region for receiving the anode of the vacuum tube. In the regions in which surround the anode when the tube is in operation, the outside of the housing is coated with a material that has a higher thermal absorption coefficient and a higher thermal conductivity than the optically transparent material. The optically transparent material may be glass. The coating material may be graphite or glass-like carbon.
