The protective cover (15) comprises lower and upper sections (15a, b), the upper pivoting on an axis (a-a) parallel to the injection molding axis (s-s). The sections can be transferred together, into and out of the protective position. Preferred features: The injection molding unit (S) has straps (18), serving to guide and support the protective cover (15). The straps also include small guide bars (20), forming a pivoting axis (a-a) for the top cover. The guide bars (20) lie parallel to the large columns (17) on which the injection molding unit (S) is detachably fastened to the stationary mold carrier (13). Circular sliding bearings (21) with clearance, carry the cover on the columns. Clearance is slight, so that any loading of the cover brings the sliding bearings to rest on the columns (17). They are located on ends of the guide bars (20). Upper and lower sections of the cover are bolted together, for movement together. A bolt (22) operating in a recess (24) in the bearing or strap, ensures that the e.g. upper section must be slid before it can be swung open. An NC safety switch system (25, 26) is turned off by opening the cover.
