PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens having a wide viewing angle and a high variable power ratio. SOLUTION: This zoom lens is provided with a 1st lens group G1 having positive refractive power, a 2nd lens group G2 having negative refractive power, a 3rd lens group G3 having negative refractive power and a 4th lens group G4 having positive refractive power in order from an object side. In the case of varying power from a wide angle end to a telephoto end, the 1st and the 4th lens groups G1 and G4 are fixed, the 2nd lens group G2 is monotonously moved, and the 3rd lens group G3 is moved back and forth. At such a time, the 2nd lens group G2 is constituted by arranging a convex meniscus lens L1 having a convex surface on the object side, at least two concave lenses L2 and L3 and a convex meniscus lens L4 having the convex surface on the object side in order from the object side.
