A dye-fixing agent in an aqueous ink receiving layer for use in an ink jet recording medium having a substrate and, laminated thereon, the aqueous ink receiving layer, which comprises a hydrotalcite compound containing a silica te anion and a sulfate ion or a silicate anion as constituting anions; and an i nk jet recording medium having a substrate and, laminated thereon, the aqueous ink receiving layer; and a porous hydro compound represented by the formula (1): MII1-xAlx(OH)2(A1n-)a(A2m-)b .bullet.yH2O wherein MII represents Mg2+ and/or Zn2+, A1n- represents a n-valent silicate anion and sulfate ion or a n- valent silicate anion, A2m- represents an anion selected from the group consisting of CO32-, NO3-, Cl- and OH-, x and y satisfy the formula 0.50 < ; x <= 0.80 and the formula 0 < y < 2, and a and b satisfy the formula 0.50 < na + mb <= 0.80. |
