A process for producing a monomer compound represented by general formula (II) (wherein M represents an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal; and n is 0, 1, or 2) by thermally decomposing a compound represented by formula (I) (wherein M and n are the same as defined above), characterized in that the thermal decomposition is conducted in the presence of a catalyst having the ability to coordinate with the metal ion M.
